Kansas State football’s prodigal son has returned home.

On Sunday, Colorado transfer running back and former four-star speedster out of Derby Dylan Edwards announced his re-commitment with the program on social media after committing and decommitting from the Wildcats in the summer of 2022. He signed on Monday.

In 2022, Edwards was one of the first dominos to fall recruiting-wise for the Wildcats in a stellar class that featured sophomore star quarterback Avery Johnson among many others.

Edwards gave his verbal pledge to head coach Chris Klieman and staff on June 23, 2022, but 36 days later, he decommitted and soon switched his pledge to Notre Dame. He would make one final switch before signing day, spurning the Fighting Irish for Deion Sanders and Colorado, someone Edwards and his family had a previous relationship with prior to Edwards’ recruitment.

The 2021 Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year, Edwards put up 3,214 all-purpose yards and 40 total touchdowns for the Panthers who were state runners-up last season in Class 6A.

Edwards is ranked as the No. 2 player in the state of Kansas and 19th best running back in the country. He is the son of former Wildcat running back Leon Edwards who played under Bill Snyder from 1992 to 1994.

It was reported that Edwards received interest from many schools after entering the portal, including Texas A&M, Georgia, Kansas, Nebraska and Louisville, but the shifty in-state versatile weapon, who prides himself on being an all-purpose back, made just the one visit to Manhattan before locking in his transfer destination.

At Colorado, he played in all 12 games last season as a true freshman, including exploding onto the scene in Colorado Week 1 win over TCU. He had five catches for 135 yards and three touchdowns while also adding 24 yards rushing and a score. Things regressed after for Edwards after that, as Colorado’s season imploded down the stretch.

In total, Edwards had 76 carries for 321 yards and one touchdown while adding 36 receptions for 299 receiving yards and four touchdowns.

Edwards joins presumptive starter DJ Giddens in a running back room that needed a strong second-string option.

Redshirt freshman Joe Jackson and junior LaJames White are also in line for that No. 2 spot on the depth chart.
