Manhattan High track and field teams sweep regionals

The two teams combined for 36 state qualifiers, including 10 first-place finishes.

The Manhattan High girls were led by the dynamic duo of Hanna Pellant and Harli Omli. In the 100, Pellant took first with a time of 11.68, which broke her own school record, and Omli finished second (11.72).

Then the two flipped. This time, Omli took first with a time of 24.65 in the 200 while Pellant finished just behind in second with a time of 24.88.

Omli also finished first in the 400 with a record-breaking time of 55.97.

Pellant also notched another first-place finish, this time in the long jump where she bounded 17 feet, 10.5 inches.

Then the two combined with Aylani Barron and Sarah Oberreuter for another gold medal. The four broke their school record of 48.05 set earlier this season with a time of 47.97.

Barron finished third in the 100-meter hurdles and fourth in the 300 hurdles while Sophia Peabody placed third in the high jump with a height of 5 feet, 4 inches.

Jorryn Hall placed second in the shot put (37 feet, 5 inches) and third in the javelin at 115 feet, 6 inches.

For the Manhattan High boys, Aaron Newcomer won the high jump with a jump of 6 feet, 8 inches followed right behind by Vincent Malone in second with a jump of the same height.

Lucas Holdren won the 1600 with a time of 4:31.33 while finishing second in the 3200 (9:40.72).

Brady Durtschi finished first in the triple jump with a distance of 42 feet, 11 inches, while Eli Strawn won the pole vault with a height of 14 feet, 3 inches.

Jarrett Johnson won the shot put with a throw of 37 feet, 5 inches

The state track meet kicks off Friday in Wichita at Cessna Stadium and will run through Saturday.
