Kansas State men’s basketball added its fifth player from out of the transfer portal on Thursday evening when Cal State Fullerton guard Max Jones committed to the Wildcats and head coach Jerome Tang.

The 6-foot-4 senior from Clearwater, Florida, averaged 15.3 points per game along with three rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.7 steals. He played in 24 games and started 21 of them, averaging 27.5 minutes per game.

He put up six 20-point games last season and had a career-high 30 points at Nebraska.

As a sophomore, Jones averaged 12.4 points and 4 rebounds. He was an All-Big West honorable mention selection and helped lead the Titans to a Big West championship game appearance.

Prior to his sophomore season, Jones played two years at the University of Tampa, which is Division 2. He averaged 22.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.3 steals per game and was named the Sunshine State Freshman of the Year.

During his two years at Cal State Fullerton, Jones shot 41.5% from the field and 39% from beyond the arc. He was also 78.7% from the free-throw line.

In high school, he was named Clearwater High’s athlete of the year and the Pinellas County Athletic Conference Player (PCAC) of the Year. He was also picked as an all-star in the PCAC and in the state of Florida.

Jones joins fellow transfers Dug McDaniel (Michigan), CJ Jones (Illinois-Chicago), Brendan Hausen (Villanova) and Baye Fall (Arkansas), along with returners David N’Guessan, Taj Manning and Macalaeb Rich, and incoming freshman David Castillo. There are still three open scholarships available for the 2024-25 season.
