Charles Melton, a Manhattan High graduate and former K-State football player took a special date with him to the Golden Globes on Sunday night: his mom.

Melton, 33, was nominated in the category Male Actor in a Supporting Role for his work on “May December,” in which he starred alongside Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore. The film, streaming on Netflix, is inspired by the story of Mary Kay Letourneau.

Melton is the son of Sukyong and Phil Melton of Manhattan. He took Sukyong to the awards show Sunday, and they were photographed on the red carpet.

“It’s so grounding,” he told Entertainment Tonight’s Rachel Smith. “I was a little under the weather a few days ago, and she was making me chicken soup and taking care of me, it was really nice.”

Melton is known for his part on the CW series “Riverdale,” where he played Reggie Mantle from 2017 to 2023. He also was the lead in the film “The Sun is Also a Star.”

Melton is a 2009 graduate of Manhattan High. He played defensive back for K-State but left school to pursue acting. Melton was spotted at a local rec center over Christmas break, where he was playing basketball with friends.

Also nominated in his category were Robert De Niro, Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Willem Dafoe and Ryan Gosling. Melton also could be nominated for an Oscar; those nomination will be announced Jan. 23.
