A University of Arizona high jumper who grew up in Manhattan is set to compete in the Olympic trials next week.

Paris Mikinski, who is the daughter of former K-State All-America high jumper Gwen Wentland-Mikinski and former Mercury photographer Rod Mikinski, finished third in the Pac-12 Championships in May with a mark of 5 feet, 10.5 inches.

She will compete Saturday at the University of Oregon’s Hayward Field in Eugene for the chance to go to the Paris Olympics this summer.

Paris Mikinski is a sophomore at Arizona. Her family moved to Tucson before she went to high school.

Wentland-Mikinski was an NCAA indoor champion, Big 8 conference champion, eight-time All-American and is still the K-State record holder. She was also on the Team USA track coaching staff for the London Olympics in 2012.

K-State track junior hammer thrower Monique Hardy and former K-State hammer thrower Janae Kassanavoid also will be competing at trials.
