Work at Lincoln Education Center, formerly Manhattan High School East Campus, continues Friday, Aug. 9, 2024.

As students return to school next week, the USD 383 school board is also prepping for a new start.

Officials reported this week that renovations to Lincoln Education Center are almost complete, and the Manhattan-Ogden Board of Education this fall will transfer to 901 Poyntz Ave., formerly known as the Manhattan High East Campus building.

“We’re seven weeks away from transitioning to Lincoln Education Center,” Superintendent Eric Reid said. “We’re planning on having our first October board meeting at Lincoln.

“That will allow stuff to begin here instead of waiting two months for them to tear out the asbestos.”

The Lincoln Education Center, which for many years served as the ninth-grade center, also will house the district’s administrative offices, the FIT Closet and a community space that will host Common Table meals.

Classes begin on Aug. 13 for USD 383 grades kindergarten to 8th grade. For new Manhattan High School students, incoming freshmen and transfer students, it is a half day. Students in grades 10 through 12 have no classes on the 13th.

Board approves CiCo Park project design

The USD 383 Board of Education on Wednesday unanimously approved the proposal submitted by Baker-McMillan Architects of Manhattan to provide architectural services for the CiCo Park improvement project. The costs are not to exceed $30,000.

Superintendent advises drivers to stay alert in school zones

Reid encouraged the public to drive with care through the school zones now that school will soon be in session. He advises drivers to watch the speed limits and to pay attention while driving through the school zones and crosswalks.

“Every intersection is dangerous when people don’t follow the rules,” Reid said. “Pay attention, watch your speeds. Buses will be rolling soon.”

Reid said in the past, distracted drivers have rear-ended school buses.
