Ahead of Tuesday’s primary election, an official on Monday reported advance voting totals were down compared to the last presidential primary.

Riley County clerk Rich Vargo said that as of Saturday, 944 people in the county had voted in advance.

Advance totals were down 5,825 from the last primary election in 2020, when 6,769 advance ballots were cast for the primary election. (Obviously the pandemic affected turnout that year.)

Advance voting closed Monday at noon.

Vargo said that the polls will be open Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Advance voting closes at noon Tuesday by state law. Vargo said 661 people in Riley County participated in advanced voting in person and 283 by mail, as of Saturday.

“Mail of course can be received as long as it’s postmarked by Election Day through Friday,” Vargo said.

Vargo encouraged voters to refer to a sample ballot prior to voting.
